Convection Connection: Why We Love Convection
Convection technology has come a long way from its limited offerings on high end ovens. Now it’s a regular feature for many manufacturers and we’re not only seeing it in ovens, we’re seeing convection microwaves too. Add to that other new (old) technologies like steam, and you’ve got a kitchen upgrade in the making.
A Quick Reminder on How Convection Works
Aided by a fan and exhaust system, a convection oven moves hot air around the food allowing for a much more even, and faster cooking. Ideal for things like roasts, multiple trays of cookies, and anything you want beautifully browned like a pie.
Convection ovens offer up quicker cooking times, more even cooking, and better browning. You can also find convection features on freestanding gas and electric ranges, as well as wall ovens.
What’s Not to Love!?
And now there is even MORE to love! Some of the latest ovens offer up the best of convection and the best of steam. What’s so awesome about steam? Check out our post HERE for all the steamy details.
This steam and convection model from Thermador even offers up 40 pre-programmed modes that automatically set the oven temperature and humidity to ensure perfect cooking results.
And what household can’t live without their microwave? I know I can’t! And now even microwaves have stepped up their game with convection microwaves. While usually a little bit larger than your average microwave because of the extra cooking space inside the oven, these babies pack a lot of punch. Using the speed of the microwave and the evenness and browning of the convection oven, you’ll think you hired a kitchen assistant with one of these in the house.
This model from Kitchen Aid even has a sound based popcorn function, how cool is that?!
Ah, convection technology….making life and movie night just that much easier (and tastier).
